Submissions
Guidelines
We accept submissions that relate to the theme of an up-coming issue. We also accept submissions for the “FragNotes” section of the magazine—pieces which explore fragmentary writing in general.
Currently we are accepting theme-based submissions for three upcoming issues:
Philosophical Notebooks
Issue #3, Fall 2008
Submissions deadline: July 1, 2008
(issue will appear online in September 2008)
Poem Fragments
Issue #4, Spring 2009
Submissions deadline: December 1, 2008
(issue will appear online in March 2009)
(Note: please submit only true poem fragments, not complete poems. You may submit notes for poems, ideas for poems, incomplete poems, possible first lines and last lines, etc.)
Haunting Memories
Issue #5, Fall 2009
Submissions deadline: July 1, 2009
(issue will appear online in September 2009)
Submissions to the “FragNotes” section should consist of a discussion or exploration of fragments as a genre from a personal or literary point of view, unrelated to the theme of a particular issue. We prefer that these pieces be written in fragmented form themselves, or in micro essay form. There is no deadline date for these submissions.
To send a submission, please use this form. Indicate what issue your submission is for or if you are submitting to the “FragNotes” section. You may send either a sample of your writing or a full submission, either in the body of your email or via attachment. A sample should consist of approximately 200 words; a full submission a minimum of 750 words and no more than 20 manuscript pages. Please include a short bio and use the word “Submission” in your subject line. We will send you an email if we want to read more of your writing or if we accept your submission for publication.
We only publish up to 15 contributions per issue, so we are selective. We prefer pieces that consist of a series of fragments in the form of vignettes, aphorisms, notes, excerpts from diaries and notebooks, short titled pieces, excerpts from letters, etc. We seek quality writings (especially psychological, philosophical, and poetic fragments) that are original and nontraditional.
We accept simultaneous submissions and will occasionally consider previously-published material. (Please include this information along with your submission, if appropriate, and notify us if your piece is accepted for publication elsewhere.) We also consider submissions from previous FragLit contributors.
If we publish your piece, as the author you retain the copyright (we only acquire one-time publication rights). Since we are a free online magazine, we do not pay contributors for their accepted works. However, your piece will always be accessible online because we archive all issues of the magazine.
For those who prefer to send full submissions via post office mail (please include an email address should we need to contact you; submissions will not be returned), send to:
