Darkness and Light: Private Writing as Art ~ Editors' Note Darkness and Light is an anthology of contemporary private writing. Its purpose is to promote the journal/diary/notebook as a valid literary genre. The original manuscript was completed in 1991. In publishing the book nine years later, we have refrained from updating the contents in order to preserve the original character of the book. When searching for contributors, we wanted to discover "unknowns" as well as published writers who had never had the opportunity to release their journal and diary fragments. We also sought writings that had not been published elsewhere. Except for Mr. Haider's contribution (which has since been published in another form), all the pieces in the anthology are published here for the first time.
